Environmental activist Jim Elliott announced his candidacy on Saturday.

Elliott says he feels city council needs to be more responsive to residents and that his campaign will focus on a number of issues ranging from climate change to racism.

He suggests there needs to be policy changes to get the city away from car culture, including supporting active transportation cycling, transit and paratransit.

He also says the current council is not identifying racism as a problem, and he wants policy changes around policing and housing.

Current mayor Michael Fougere and Tony Fiacco, who is former mayor Pat Fiacco’s older brother, are also running for the position in the upcoming vote on Oct. 26.
