Kids in City Park will be able to continue using Kinsmen Play Village. City council voted to reopen the playground instead of moving it to Ashworth Holmes Park in Caswell Hill.
This is after a petition to keep the playground in its current location gained 1,400 signatures online.
“I think that when a petition receives 1,400 signatures that quickly that city council does need to pay attention,” says Ward 1 Coun. Darren Hill.
“I think this is a perfect example that you can change city hall’s mind simply by putting the information in front of them and making sure they’re properly informed to reconsider their previous decisions.”

But the community of Caswell Hill isn’t left out of the deal. That area will receive brand new equipment instead.
Council voted to use $253,000 from a contingency fund to renovate the existing Kinsmen Park and purchase the new playground for Caswell Hill. That’s set to be completed by June 2017.
City council has recommended Kinsmen Play Village reopen after a safety review and equipment upgrades, which is expected to be complete by the end of August.
The demolition of the paddling pool and washroom building will continue as planned.
“They have reached their useful operational life. They were no longer reparable,” said Hill.
