Nursing humpback whale puts on a show near B.C.’s Penn Islands

ABOVE: A nursing humpback whale thrilled boaters and kayakers on Aug. 10 during an expedition near B.C.’s Penn Islands.

A nursing humpback whale put on a show for boaters and kayakers near Cortes Island recently.

The video shows a whale breaching, not too far from a group of kayakers just off the coast of Penn Islands.

One of the kayakers was able to use a telephoto lense to get some close shots of the whale.

The humpback put on quite a show, much to the delight on the onlookers.

While all of the boaters were keeping their distance, experts say this video shows how careful we have to be around the whales because they can close the gap between us and them very quickly.
