Kelowna man in stolen vehicle arrested

A man found in the drivers seat of a vehicle, believed to have been stolen, was arrested in West Kelowna on Saturday.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a public complaint was issued to RCMP reporting the man acting strangely; that tip led to his arrest.

“Our complainant described the male as standing in the middle of the street, acting in a way that seemed as though he was believed to be intoxicated by either drugs or alcohol,” O’Donaghey said.

Officers responded to the disturbance in the 4000 block of Gellatly Road.

“Police attended the area, located the man, now sitting in the driver’s seat of a blue Honda Civic, which investigators confirmed as reported by its owner as stolen sometime overnight from Richter Avenue in Kelowna,” Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a news release.

The 31-year-old Kelowna man, who doesn’t have a fixed address, was taken into custody and held over the weekend, according to O’Donaghey.

He’s facing potential charges of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break in instruments, failure to comply with a Probation Order and possession of a controlled substance.
