Calgary police removed a body from the Bow River Friday afternoon.

Police said a member of the public reported seeing the body in the river near the Peace Bridge just before 2 p.m.

Jordan Meloche told Global News he had been trying to find a spot for a picnic when he saw something floating in the river.

“It kind of looked like a dog or a log,” Meloche said. “I climbed down the rocks to get a closer look and you could tell it was a body floating down the river. I immediately called 911 and flagged down fire rescue.”

The medical examiner was called to the scene to investigate.

The Bow River is a popular spot for Calgarians to go rafting. People were directed away from the area Friday afternoon.
