WINNIPEG — Manitoba Hydro is sending out crews Thursday morning, to try and clean up the damage from a storm that ripped through parts of the province.

The southern part of the province was hit with a huge thunderstorm Wednesday evening. High winds, loonie-sized hail and heavy rain caused power outages throughout province.

Manitoba Hydro said Winkler, Morden and Carmen, Man., were hit the hardest. Morden saw heavy rain and strong winds up to 111 km/h. There were around 1,000 customers without power at the height of the storm.

The  outages are mostly due to trees falling onto power lines, Hydro said.

Currently, there are around 2,500 people still without power. But Manitoba Hydro hopes to have everyone back up and running as soon as possible.
