Open Farm Days ready to welcome visitors from across Alberta

Alberta Open Farm Days invites people out to a number of host sites across the province to experience rural life on August 20 and 21.

“Open Farm Days is the perfect opportunity for Albertans to enjoy a staycation in the country, enjoying the beauty and bounty of rural Alberta,” Minister of Tourism Ricardo Miranda said. “From farm tours for the family and farm-fresh feasts at one-of-kind culinary events for the foodie in all of us, there is something for everyone.”

Farm Days allows visitors to experience life on a farm, which includes barbecues, hayrides, petting zoos, farm demonstrations and the opportunity to buy locally grown products.

On both Saturday and Sunday, top chefs from across the province will use locally grown products and will be featured at unique culinary experiences. There is a cost to participate in the culinary event.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, visitors will be invited to visit more than 90 host farms throughout the province.  Admission is free but there may be additional costs for some activities.

“Open Farm Days is a great opportunity for Albertans to show their support for Alberta producers, while learning more about how their food is grown and why our province’s agriculture businesses are thriving,” Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Oneil Carlier said.
