Police have laid four charges against a teenage boy who they allege crashed a stolen minivan in Caledon early Tuesday morning, killing a young female passenger.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene after police say the vehicle crossed the centre line around 4 a.m. and slammed into part of the front gate of a Christian youth camp, sending debris across the laneway.
The facility, called the Teen Ranch, cancelled programming for the day and said no one from the camp was involved.
Ontario Provincial Police earlier said both the girl and the boy allegedly behind the wheel were under the age of 16. The boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
They announced later Tuesday that he has been charged with fail to comply with undertaking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
He is due in court Friday.
The owner of the minivan told Global News it was stolen on Sunday.
Police are not releasing the names or ages of the accused or the deceased as “they are both young persons.”
