MONTREAL – A 31-year-old man appeared in court Monday after a woman was injured when a gunshot was fired into a crowd on Île-Sainte-Hélène Saturday evening.

At around 10 p.m. officers patrolling the Week-ends du monde festival at Parc Jean-Drapeau heard what sounded like gunshots fired.

With the help of the public, authorities were able to locate the suspect, who they say was armed.

According to Montreal police, a fight broke out between the suspect and another man, with punches being exchanged.

At least 10 other people jumped in and that’s when police say the suspect fired at least one shot into the crowd.

A woman in her 30s suffered minor injuries after she was struck by a stray bullet.

The suspect, who is known to police, was arrested on site and is expected to appear in Quebec court Monday morning.

Police have not yet been able to identify or locate the other individual involved in the incident.
