The annual Mosiaq Mulitcultural Festival turned the streets of downtown Moncton into a ‘world village’.
Cultural exhibitors, musicians, performers and food vendors lined the streets outside city hall, drawing crowds of people to the area over the weekend.
Parent Holly Stevens attends the event every year with her children, and says she want her son and daughter to grow up celebrating diversity.
Interim executive director of the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area (MAGMA) Justin Ryan tells Global News that Syrian newcomers will be performing a dance to close the festival.
“This is the chance for the community to come out and meet all of their new neighbours, and for the new arrivals to share their culture back with the new community and make it a more interesting, more vibrant place to live,” Ryan said.

Mosaiq Chairperson Ajit Gautam says the festival brings people in the community together.
“It’s breaking the barriers, here in Moncton especially. The people, you know, we have so much here, so many various cultures. So it’s bringing those cultures together and letting people see what the whole world is about without going abroad,” Gautam said.
