Halifax man who slit woman’s throat denied parole

Natasha Pace/Global News

A Halifax man convicted in a brutal attack on a gas station clerk in Dartmouth nine years ago will be staying in jail.

Michael Derrick Robicheau is currently serving his second federal prison term, an indeterminate sentence, after he was declared a dangerous offender in 2013.

Robicheau was convicted of attempted murder, sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and robbery following an attack on a 44-year-old woman at the Portland Street Ultramar in 2007.

Robicheau sexually assaulted the clerk and slit her throat before fleeing the gas station with a carton of cigarettes. The woman survived the attack.

The attack happened less than two weeks after Robicheau was released from prison and placed in a halfway house in Halifax.

Parole documents obtained by Global News state that Robicheau is considered at high risk to reoffend, especially in a violent and sexual manner.

Since he has been declared a dangerous offender by the courts, Robicheau can be imprisoned indefinitely.
