WINNIPEG –A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after stealing a vehicle and dumping it into the Red River early Wednesday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m., police were called on scene in St. Boniface after reports of a stolen vehicle.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the teenager drove off at a high speed with “no regard for public safety”, police said.
The teen abandoned the vehicle, which was found partially submerged in the river at a dead end on Tache Avenue near Whittier Park.
The police canine unit tracked the suspect along the riverbank and arrested the teenage a short distance away. He’s been charged with numerous offences, including theft of a motor vehicle and mischief over $5,000.
