Motorcyclist clocked at 117km/h over speed limit in Richmond Hill

A 21-year-old man has been charged with stunt driving after police caught him going 117 kilometres per hour over the speed limit in Richmond Hill over the weekend.

York Regional Police say they were conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 7 and Hunters Point Drive around 10:30 p.m. on June 12 when a blue Yamaha motorcycle was spotted travelling 197 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Police were able to apprehend the motorcyclist and he was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, stunt driving and speeding.

The accused also had his vehicle impounded for seven days and his licence suspended.

Police are warning motorists to obey the speed limit as excessive speeds can put others at risk of injury or even death.
