Toronto police say two boaters who were pulled from Lake Ontario on Monday morning have died.

Police say the two men were pulled from the lake without vital signs, and later died. They were in the process of trying to confirm their identities.

Search-and-rescue crews had been scouring the lake near the Scarborough Bluffs since Sunday evening after two boaters failed to return to shore.

Police say the two men went out around 8 a.m. Sunday and were meant to come back by noon.

Several Coast Guard vessels and a Hercules aircraft out of CFB Trenton were called in for the search.

Police say the deaths are not considered suspicious, but there will be a post-mortem on Tuesday.
