Kelowna residents honour Orlando victims at candlelight vigil

Kelowna to light candles for Orlando victims – Jun 13, 2016

KELOWNA–A candlelight vigil will be held Sunday evening in Kelowna to honour the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Omar S. Mateen has been identified as the gunman who killed 50 people and injured 53 others when he opened fire inside Pulse Nightclub, a crowded gay nightclub, early Sunday morning.

The massacre is the worst mass shooting in United States history.

Community members, along with members of Pride Okanagan are organizing the local vigil.

It will be held Sunday evening at Kelowna’s rainbow crosswalk at Lawrence Avenue and Pandosy Street.

Organizers have set up a Facebook page, with a message that reads:

Let’s light some candles and come together to send a message of love and solidarity with all those LGBTQ… Folks in Flordia, here in Canada, and across the world who have experienced hate and violence just for being who they are. Peace and love.

The vigil will begin at 6 p.m.
