You may have been doused by rain Saturday afternoon, and some parts of central Alberta saw lightning, strong winds and hail.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for areas including Drayton Valley, Devon, Rimbey, Pigeon Lake, Leduc and Camrose.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Spruce Grove, Morinville, Mayerthorpe and Evansburg. It was downgraded to a watch a short time later.

All thunderstorm warnings and watches were dropped by 5:30 p.m.

In Leduc, the weather appeared severe enough to uproot mature trees.

In fact, the local RCMP detachment responded to a call about a possible small tornado that may have touched down in the city. Officers were called to Highway 2, 54 Street and in the Willow Park Estates residential area. They said the storm damaged properties, vehicles and uprooted several trees.

The RCMP said no one was injured and the nature of the storm is still unconfirmed.

A thunderstorm watch means conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may produce strong winds, large hail and heavy rain.

A thunderstorm warning means people in the specified areas should be on the lookout for these weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.

A weather advisory was issued for Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge and Valleyview. Environment Canada said conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds Saturday.
