The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after a police officer shot at a driver who allegedly didn’t stop after colliding with his police vehicle on Wednesday.
RCMP are asking the public for help tracking down the driver, who is alleged to have nearly run down the officer near Spirit River in northwest Alberta.
Mounties said they were called to investigate an impaired driving complaint around 3 p.m. when an officer spotted the vehicle in question on Range Road 61.
They said the driver turned his vehicle around and crashed into the RCMP cruiser. When the officer got out of his vehicle, police allege the suspect drove at him.
“The adult male driver arrived at a dead end, turned the pickup around, and then drove toward the police vehicle colliding with it,” ASIRT said in a release. “The adult male fled the scene and was later arrested without injury.”
The RCMP officer was able to jump out of the way of the oncoming vehicle and was not injured in the collision.
Police are asking the public to let them know if they see or know the whereabouts of a black Dodge 3500 pickup truck bearing the licence plate number VES 974. However, RCMP are asking the public not to approach the truck or the suspect.
