Toronto police found a 3-year-old girl wandering alone and shoeless in Scarborough on the hottest day of the year so far.

Police say the girl was found crying by herself near Torrance Road and Grace Street around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

With temperatures topping 30 degrees, Saturday is the hottest day of the year and Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning that young children are especially susceptible to the heat.

The girl was reunited with her mother at the police station just after 3 p.m.
