REGINA – A travelling group of British Columbia pro-oil and gas protesters headed for Ottawa made a stop in Regina Thursday afternoon looking to drum up support.
They’re called “Fort St. John for LNG”, which is also known as liquefied natural gas.
The group of protesters come from various towns and cities in northeastern B.C.
Founder Alan Yu says the region has experienced a severe economic downtown and they want to see the federal government move ahead on approving LNG projects in the area and pipelines across the country.
“We’d like to deliver the message to Justin Trudeau that anymore delays will make the workers suffer, any further delays will lay off more workers,” Yu said.
Since beginning their journey from the west-coast, the busload of protesters have been holding rallies in western Canadian towns and cities in support of their cause.
The group says they are financed solely by donations through their GoFundMe page. However, they haven’t reached their $20,000 goal and have only raised enough money to get them to Ottawa.
The groups next stop will be Winnipeg, Thursday night just in time for the Liberal Party convention. They’re expecting to reach Ottawa by June 1st.
