An Ontario company pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ensure that a worker was properly trained in safe rigging practices. Lafarge Canada Inc. entered its plea on Monday in Saskatoon provincial court.
The charge under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation stemmed from an incident that occurred on Jan. 14, 2014, where an employee was injured at a worksite in the city.

The Saskatchewan ministry of labour relations and workplace safety said a boom of a track hoe hit a catwalk guardrail causing the worker to fall six metres. The employee was injured in the incident.
Lafarge was fined $10,000, plus a surcharge of $4,000.
Two other charges against the company were withdrawn.
A lack of proper safety training is one of the most common reasons workers are injured or killed on the job, according to the ministry.
