KELOWNA, B.C. – The Kelowna Fire Department deployed their rescue boat Monday afternoon following reports of a man drowning in Mission Creek where it meets Okanagan Lake.
At about 5:30 p.m., bystanders attempted to use kayaks to reach the man, who witnesses said lost his footing while fishing from a sandbar at the mouth of the creek.
Emergency crews retrieved the man lakeside and brought him to shore.
The fisherman, a man said to be in his 30’s, was taken to Kelowna General Hospital to be treated for what witnesses believe to be mild hypothermia.
