VERNON — A boat ride turned ugly for a man and woman on Kalamalka Lake in Vernon on Saturday afternoon when they fell into the water and the woman suffered injuries from the boat’s propeller, according to police.
Cpl. Spencer Hornoi says Vernon RCMP were called to the scene around 4 p.m.
Hornoi says they were too far out to swim back to shore.
“It was just off of Rattlesnake Point. They were treading water near the circling vessel.
“They were brought to a boat launch in the Kinloch Drive area where Emergency Health Services and RCMP attended.”
Both of them were transported to hospital and Hornoi says while the woman’s legs were badly cut up, her injuries were non-life-threatening.
“She was knicked pretty bad on her legs but she walked to the ambulance.”
Meantime, the boat was left circling on the water until it ran out of fuel.
“The boat was still going around and around and it was left to run out of fuel. Then a member of the public towed it to shore later that day,” says Hornoi.
The man operating the boat is a 47-year-old Armstrong man. Hornoi says the injured woman was a relative of his but could not identify where she is from or her age.
