Charges pending after laser pointed at Calgary officer

Charges are pending after a laser was pointed into the eye of a Calgary officer on Monday.

It happened in the area of Bonaventure Drive and Southland Drive S.E. at around 11:30 p.m.

Police said two men were seen pointing a green laser at passing cars from inside a vehicle.

As investigators drove toward the vehicle, it’s alleged the laser was pointed into the mirror of their cruiser, hitting one officer in the eye.

The suspect vehicle sped off, but was located near Market Mall with the help of the HAWCS helicopter.

The driver exited the vehicle and ran off on foot, but was tracked down and arrested a short time later.

The passenger was also taken into custody.

One officer was taken to hospital as a precaution.
