Kelowna fire crews checking smoke alarms in North Glenmore

KELOWNA — Is your smoke alarm working?

If you live in the North Glenmore area of Kelowna, don’t be surprised to see fire crews in your neighbourhood this month, checking to ensure the answer to that question is yes.

The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD)’s door-to-door smoke alarm and FireSmart awareness campaign starts on Monday.

“Crews will stop by to make sure that you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home, as well as leave you with information on how to make your home safer should there be a wildfire nearby,” said KFD Inspector, Rick Euper in a news release.

KFD staff plan to head out in the afternoons, evenings and weekends to provide residents in the area with fire and life safety information, until the end of May.

If you’re not home when they come by, a brochure will be left, providing safety tips.

“We continue to focus fire and life safety education in specific neighbourhoods in our community because of the distance to our main fire hall and the age of the buildings in those neighbourhoods,” said Euper.
