EDMONTON – Police released new details Monday about a serious collision involving a van and a pedestrian over the weekend. They now believe alcohol and drugs may have been factors in the crash.

Police said a 46-year-old man is still recovering in hospital after suffering serious injuries when he was hit by the van in northwest Edmonton Saturday evening.

The collision occurred at around 4:45 p.m. near 127 Street and 133A Avenue.

Because of the severity of the injuries, the Edmonton Police Major Collision Unit has taken over the investigation.

On Monday, police said they believe the van was heading south on 127 Street when it went up a curb on the west side of the street, just south of 122A Avenue. Police believe the van continued on the sidewalk until it hit the pedestrian who was sitting on a bench at a bus stop. Officials also believe the van dragged the victim a short distance.
