More than 550 swimmers took a chilly plunge in Kelowna on Saturday.
The swimmers were testing their skills in Okanagan Lake for the annual Interior Savings Across the Lake Swim.
Despite concerns about overnight lightening, the conditions cooperated perfectly, according to race director Peter Rudd.
“We were a little worried at first. But the lake is calm and there is no sun. It’s actually really good,” Rudd said.

Swimmers of all ages and skill levels braved the 2.1 kilometre course, including some first-timers.
“It’s a lot different than in a pool,” said Sean Manchester, 15. “It’s a little scary but it was fun.”
The athletes were sent off in waves based on their experience.
Thought participation was clearly the emphasis, the event also attracted serious competitors, including winner David Dimitlov.
Dimitlov hopes the event continues to grow.
“It would be nice to see national team members out here and to have some spicier competition,” he said.
The event brought out more than 100 swimmers than last year.
