WINNIPEG – Dozens of children have been recognized for their substantial charitable contributions to Winnipeg Harvest.
On Saturday afternoon, 34 participants who are part of the Kids Who Care program were singled out for their donations.
In all, 104 participants in the program brought in over 1,500 pounds of food, 900 pounds of school supplies and $1,000 for people and families in need.
“If they are thinking about these issues now than I think it’s only a good thing that in the future they’ll be able to contribute to their community in a bigger way and not just those donations of money food or time,” said Rebecca Trudeau, Winnipeg Harvest’s Youth Programs Associate.
The children raised their donations through a number of strategies including going door-to-door, operating lemonade stands and collecting items during their birthday parties.
The Kids Who Care program has been running since 2000. Next year it is being expanded to involve kids with Winnipeg Harvest more frequently.
