Thousands of people are expected to celebrate Sikh religion and culture at the 2016 Vancouver Vaisakhi Parade.

The centuries-old harvest festival is one of the most important times of year for the Sikh community, with those in attendance enjoying free food and drink in keeping with religious teachings.

The parade will start at the Ross Street Temple at 11 a.m. and move west along SE Marine Drive to Main St., then along E. 49th Ave. to Fraser St. before returning back to the temple.

Another parade will take place in Surrey next Saturday.
