Toronto-area man pleads guilty in 2014 juvenile prostitution case of 15-year-old girl

Police say a 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty in a 2014 juvenile prostitution case, after police say they rescued a 15-year-old girl during a traffic stop in Vaughan, north of Toronto.

York Regional Police said Americo Magana pleaded guilty to sexual interference Thursday and was sentenced to a year in jail by the Ontario Superior Court Honourable Justice Michelle K. Fuerst.

Officers stopped a vehicle on Feb. 20, 2014 at about 4:40 p.m. in the area of Keele Street and Highway 407, because it had an expired licence sticker.

Police said there was a 15-year-old girl in the back seat of the vehicle who they said had no relation to the male driver.

It’s alleged that just prior to the traffic stop, the man had lured the girl to a nearby motel and engaged in sexual activity with her for the promise of money.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be assessed and was reunited with her family.

Magana initially faced multiple charges including sexual assault, luring a child, procuring to become a prostitute and obtaining the sexual services of a person under 18.
