MONTREAL – The World Tourism Cities Federation boasts an exclusive club of international cities that are rated the prime tourism capitals of the world.
This year, Montreal joins the list of destinations, which include Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin and Barcelona – to name a few.
“It’s an excellent opportunity to position our metropolis among the big international urban destinations,” said Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre.

The federation’s main objective is to encourage and facilitate trade between cities, as well as boost economic and touristic development.
With many tourism and trade opportunities, Montreal is focusing on increasing relations with China.

Representatives said more direct flights from Trudeau Airport to Chinese destinations are expected to put the metropolis in an excellent position for development.
“Montreal could draw inspiration from these destinations and grow our touristic potential,” said Yves Lalumière, Director General of Tourisme Montréal.
Tourisme Montréal expects a 15 per cent annual increase in tourism over the next three years.
