Psychiatric remand for man accused of irrational crimes in Kelowna

KELOWNA – The man accused in a dramatic series of violent events in downtown Kelowna has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Last Friday morning, police say a man was assaulted after he refused to hand over his vehicle keys to the suspect.

It’s alleged the suspect then stole an eight-year-old girl’s backpack, attacked her father, and drove away in a Ford sedan.

Shortly afterwards, a police S-U-V was broad-sided by the Ford with the suspect allegedly striking the officer through the driver side window.

He was arrested with the help of civilian witnesses.

Chase resident, Mark Andrew Fines, is charged with three counts of assault, dangerous driving and robbery.

The 42-year-old is being held in custody on a 30 day psychiatric remand and returns to court May 3rd.
