Search called off for two people missing off coast of Vancouver Island

The search for two missing fishermen off the southwest coast of Vancouver Island has been called off.

According to the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre, two men failed to return from an afternoon boating trip on Friday near Port Renfrew, and a call was put in Sunday morning.

The Coast Guard dispatched several vessels to search the area between Port Renfrew and Bamfield, and aircraft from Comox are also searching for the two.

The case has now been transferred to the Sooke RCMP.

Their identities have not been disclosed.
