WINNIPEG —  The Winnipeg Humane Society is hoping to raise $70,000 during their ninth annual 1001 Donations Telethon.

Red River College students got the Telethon to air on Shaw TV and a few volunteers from the ‘dark side’ also helped at the event.

The Winnipeg chapter of the 501st Legion, an international Star Wars costuming club, was there raise funds.

“We reached out to them this year to invite them down to come interact with people, maybe take a few photos with people and maybe interact with the animals,” said Kyle Jahns with the Winnipeg Humane Society.

“We see animals at their worst points and we’re able to heal them and love them and bring them out in the community and share in that and that’s something that really draws us together and brings out the best in people and I think that’s why people are drawn to it every year,” he continued.
