EDMONTON — An Edmonton mother who was shot in the back while she slept in her southside home in late December hopes someone will come forward with information that will help police solve the case.

Brenda Hill, 49, had surgery in January to remove a bullet lodged next to her spine. She sustained the bullet wound on Dec, 27, 2015 when her house, located in the area of 199 Street and Graham Wynd, was shot at during what police called a random, “unconscionable act of violence.”

Hill remembers being sound asleep that Sunday morning when a bullet cut through her bedroom wall. She was taken to hospital, separating her from her 31-year-old son, David Bilodeau, who lives with Cerebral Palsy and relies on his mother.

“The toughest part of this was being away from my son over the holidays,” Hill said in a media release issued by the Edmonton Police Service Thursday.

Hill is now back at home, beginning what is expected to be a long road to recovery.

No one was ever arrested in the case and Hill hopes someone will come forward with information that will help police.

“When David was in his early 20s, he was also diagnosed with Leukemia. I prayed for three days that he would live, and he’s still with us today. I’m hopeful God has one more miracle for us,” Hill said.

“To this point in time, unfortunately investigators have little to go on and a mother continues to rehab from injuries that almost cost her her life,” EPS spokesperson Scott Pattison added.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
