EDMONTON – Edmonton Oilers’ defenceman Darnell Nurse has been suspended three games for his role in a fight with San Jose Sharks’ Roman Polak.
During the Oilers game against San Jose Tuesday, Nurse went after Polak after the Sharks blue-liner delivered what was initially believed to be a heavy hit on forward Matt Hendricks.
Video of the play showed the Sharks defenceman’s stick hit the Oilers winger’s skate, causing him to crash into the boards.

Hendricks admitted after the game Polak didn’t do anything wrong.
But the Oilers defenceman left Polak bloody during the one-sided fight.
Nurse didn’t receive an instigator penalty, but it didn’t stop the NHL from handing down the suspension.
