Alberta First Nation chief charged with sexual assault

RCMP charged Alexander First Nation Chief Kurt Burnstick with one count of sexual assault Friday.

Morinville RCMP said the assault was allegedly committed against a woman the chief knows.

Burnstick was released from custody on a promise to appear in court. He is scheduled to appear at Morinville Provincial Court on April 14.

Officers said the charge comes from an investigation that started in Dec. 2015 by the Morinville RCMP and the Edmonton General Investigation Section.

Alexander First Nation is about 40 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
