UPDATE: Downtown Winnipeg building evacuated after possible meth lab discovered

WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police and fire crews are on scene on the 100 block of Smith Street as part of an investigation Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to 128 Smith Street after a call from someone in the building around 1 p.m. A police spokesperson said officers are investigating the possibility of a meth lab inside the apartment building. Six people had to leave the building for safety concerns. In all 16 suites are evacuated.

Smith Street between Broadway and York Avenue was closed for most of the afternoon but has since been opened.
