BEAUCEVILLE – About 200 people have been evacuated in the Town of Beauceville, about an hour south of Quebec City, due to flooding.
The heavy rainfall Wednesday and above-freezing temperatures Thursday caused the Chaudière River to overflow.
Water levels raised by 5 metres, colliding with ice and forcing it out onto the streets.
About 50 homes were affected.
Officials from the town insist the situation is under control and have sent out crews to monitor the situation.
The following schools are closed:
- École De Léry-Monseigneur-De-Laval
- École Jésus-Marie
- Polyvalente Saint-François
The full extent of the damage is not yet known.
