2 killed in head-on snowmobile crash in northern Ontario

SEARCHMONT, Ont. – Police are investigating after two people died in a head-on snowmobile collision in northern Ontario Saturday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police say the two men were riding on an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs track when they collided near the remote town of Searchmont, Ont., north of Sault Ste. Marie.

They say both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the victims was a 59-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., while the other was a 45-year-old from Michigan.

Police say they won’t release the names of the victims until the families have been notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
