London man charged with assault after hitting player with hockey stick during game: police

THAMES CENTRE, Ont. – Provincial police say a 36-year-old man is facing assault charges arising from an on-ice incident during a hockey game in Thames Centre, Ont.

Police allege a player struck another player in the head with a hockey stick during a game at a local arena on Sunday.

A 38-year-old London, Ont., man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators allege the accused intentionally swung his stick at the man in an incident unrelated to the play.

A Thames Centre man is charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

He has been released from police custody and is to appear in a London court on March 8.
