Moncton asks residents for more supplies for Syrian refugee families

The City of Moncton has launched another supplies drive to help Syrian refugee families settling into the city.

A drive held January 30 and 31 saw residents donate hundreds of items. After sorting through those items, the city now has a more specific list of household items required, including:

• Small appliance: like alarm clock, microwave
• Cleaning: broom/dustpan, mop/bucket, garbage cans/bags, Windex
• Laundry: hamper, basket, ironing board, iron, drying rack, sewing kit (needles, thread, scissors, etc.)
• Furniture: desk, dresser, large kitchen tables/chairs, floor/table lamps, TV stands
• Kitchen: bowls, baking pans/cookie sheets, measuring cups/spoons, serving trays
• Hygiene: First Aid kits
• Baby Items: booster/car seats (not expired), high chairs, stroller, swing

Gift cards, especially from department stores, and pre-paid credit cards will also be accepted.

The city says they do not need electronics, personal hygiene items, paper products (ie. tissue, toilet paper), children’s items, and clothing (including footwear).

The donation depot is located at 50 MacNaughton Avenue in the Caledonia Industrial Park. It will be open from 9 am to 5 pm until Sunday, February 14.

Since December 29, 2015, the city has welcomed more than 175 people from Syria, and they expect to reach a total of 250 people by end of February.
