SASKATOON – A 13-year-old Syrian refugee has been released from hospital after nearly drowning in a pool at a Saskatoon hotel. The boy got into trouble over the noon hour on Monday when he was playing in the Park Town Hotel pool with his family.

Ali Abukar with the Open Door Society, the agency that helps refugees start life in the city, says pool safety is included in their initial brief for refugees when they arrive.
He says this was simply a matter of the boy not knowing his limits.

The society says they will be adding more safeguards and translated materials to ensure all refugees understand the safety tips.
