WINNIPEG — The world’s most popular social media network turned 12-years-old Thursday.
Facebook has grown to 1.6 billion users since it first launched, and to celebrate the milestone the company created “Friends Day”, which is video of a user’s friendships through photos and life events.
However, before Facebook users took to their “walls” to wish friends a happy birthday, post pictures of their breakfast, or announce marriage proposals, how did people celebrate life milestones or connect with friends?

Facebook and Twitter users have been remembering life before Facebook, with a social media trend that is sweeping the web. Using the hashtag #BeforeFacebookI, users are posting what life was like before the social network launched in February 4, 2004.

Many of the Facebook comments had to do with how the social network has caused a distance with friendships and family, while others talked about how it has changed how we interact socially. Twitter users commented how “face-to-face” interaction has become a rarity.
