KELOWNA–RCMP say a 28–year–old man remains in custody after a dramatic arrest inside the Orchard Park Mall on Friday night.
Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to several reports of a man wielding a knife inside a jewellery store at the mall. As many as 20 officers rushed to the scene.
They found a man had entered at least two stores with a knife. He was yelling incoherently.
When confronted by officers the suspect failed to follow police commands to put down his weapon. RCMP tasered him, but to no effect, because he was wearing thick clothing.
After further negotiation, the suspect put his knife down and was taken into custody.
The man turned out to be wanted on multiple unrelated warrants out of Vernon and Dawson Creek. He faces several potential charges including assault with a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.
