One killed, three sent to hospital after crash north of Edmonton

RCMP are investigating a deadly crash in Sturgeon County on Jan. 27, 2016.

File / Global News
EDMONTON- One person is dead and three others are recovering in hospital after a car collided with a semi-truck in Sturgeon County Wednesday morning.
Mounties said emergency crews were called to a crash around 10:30 a.m. on Township Road 570, about a kilometre west of Range Road 231.

Police said the semi was pulling out of a commercial yard and onto the road when its trailer was hit by a car carrying four people.

They said the car tried to brake before the crash occurred.

One passenger in the car was pronounced dead on scene. The other people travelling in the car were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the driver of the semi was not hurt.

RCMP said road conditions were slippery at the time and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
