ENDERBY, B.C. – A public presentation for the revitalization of downtown Enderby saw overwhelming support from residents.

Dozens attended the open house to see the changes for Cliff Avenue at council chambers Tuesday afternoon.

While businesses complained over the lack of consultation by City Hall, residents tell Global Okanagan News they are happy with the plans.

“I think it’s great,” says Donlea McCombs. “I think it’s a wonderful concept.”

“I think it’s one of the best things that Enderby ever looked at,” says Peter Gilowski.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Dave Lancaster says, “I think it’s excellent. I think its something that we’ve needed for many years.”

“I trust the process,” says McCombs. “The people in this town, we know that if we have concerns, we can come to our city council.”

“Cliff Avenue is an important part of our downtown and is also the gateway to Mabel Lake,” said Mayor Greg McCune in a message on the City’s website. “As our infrastructure on this street is at the end of its lifecycle, we knew that this was our year to take a bold step forward.”

“Council has worked hard in cooperation with City staff, engineers, and architects to come up with a design that beautifies our downtown. The design represents the core values which make Enderby great while also being mindful of costs. The renewal of Cliff Avenue will draw highway traffic into town and attract tourists from Barnes Park and Mabel Lake into our retail sector.”

McCune says the $1.87 million project will go ahead immediately with completion by the May long weekend.
