WINNIPEG — The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is looking into what happened during an arrest, before a Winnipeg man was rushed to hospital with internal injuries.
He was arrested by the Winnipeg Police Service on January 23, and during that arrest, force was used to control him. He was then taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The police watch dog is now investigating what occurred leading up to his admittance to Health Sciences Centre.
Officers responded to a complaint in the 500 block of Ross Avenue, before taking the man into custody. The Winnipeg Police Service notified the IIU about his injuries the following day.
Investigators will now focus on the circumstances surrounding the conduct of WPS officers with the man.
The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, occurring on or off duty.
