VERNON – A lakefront property in the north Okanagan has moved from private to public ownership.
The Regional District of North Okanagan has bought a 13.5 acre piece of land at the north end of Crane Road on Swan Lake for $615,000.
The plan is to develop it into a nature park.
“In addition to being a popular recreation site, Swan Lake provides critical habitat for waterfowl,” says regional district director Bob Fleming. “We took advantage of the opportunity to protect more of the riparian areas surrounding it by purchasing the property for passive parkland.”
The acquisition also allows for the potential connection of Crane Road to Lochdale Road through the addition of a recreation trail.
Development of the property could start later this year.
