WINNIPEG — A startling statistic by the Amalgamated Transit Union recently released saying the number of assaults on city bus drivers went up by 50 percent in 2015.
According to CJOB News, the Amalgamated Transit Union says there were 60 confirmed assaults on Winnipeg transit drivers last year.
Those assaults ranged from spitting, kicking, punching and threatening with weapons.
A pilot project using plain-clothed officers on buses was put into action last year, but it was never permanent.
New legislation for city transit rolled out on Monday puts safety and security at the fore-front.
