WINNIPEG — WestJet is scaling back the number of flights to and from Brandon, Manitoba.

The company made the announcement Wednesday, saying it’s reducing its regular air service from Calgary to Brandon. Starting Feb. 15, 2016, there will be 11 flights per week instead of 14.

The changes means early-morning service to Calgary and late-evening return service to Brandon will now only be available on alternating days.

“This reduction in service is a direct result of the economic slowdown in the oil and gas sectors across Western Canada and its impact on airline ticket purchases,” said a statement on the Brandon Municipal Airport’s website.

WestJet said 20 communities in total across Canada have been affected by scheduling changes.

The company started its service from Calgary to Brandon in September 2013.
